I Will Never Leave You Alone (2024)

The final ‘scare’ accurately reflects the rest of this movie. It’s not scary at all. It could be, without a doubt. The elements are in place to deliver some real frights but something strange happened. Somewhere between what was written on the page took a left turn somewhere and got lost on it’s way to the screen. That happens far too often with many films that I have watched over the years but what makes this incident particularly puzzling is that the writer & the director are the same person. D.W. Medoff wrote the story, crafted the scenes and then staged them in front of his camera. I can’t quite get my mind around how that could happen because he clearly knows how to imagine scary moments yet he failed to capture them on film. Very strange. The result, for me, was a teeny-tots roller coaster. There were ups and downs but not the gut tightening slow climbs to the top followed by the terrific plunges down at the ground rushing up at me. It was all a little flat. Interestingly the man’s obvious talents left me keen to watch some of his other works to see if this was jut an anomaly and his skills were able to flourish in his other works. That might reassure anyone reading my thoughts here to be interested enough to watch I WILL NEVER LEAVE YOU ALONE. You might not rush to add it to your personal film collection but I am confident that you will have an experience that you won’t regret.
