Helena Gao

Helena Gao is a Danish-Chinese singer, songwriter and producer. In her self-titled project she operates as all three. Coming from a multicultural background, she’s had bittersweet encounters with the feeling of not fitting the mold. She expresses that through music that forces the unbothered experimentalist and the pleasing pop star to coexist. Backed up by atmospheric instrumentals that morph synthetics and acoustics, she voices typical gen-Z issues with honesty and humor. In November 2020 she released her debut EP "Extended Adolescence" that explored the disheartening feeling of discovering that you weren't quite the grown up you thought, and still have a tendency towards bad habits of earlier years. Danish music media have compared her to artists like Kate Bush, FKA Twigs and The Microphones.
