“Mim” (Nat Luurtsema) and “Danny” (Sam Pamphilion) work the ferry together to and from their island home that she has never left. He escaped to university for three years but returned and now he clearly has feelings for his friend. She, meantime, really only thinks of him in sibling terms and so puts his nose out of joint when she announces that she might be pregnant. He’s gobsmacked, but that’s just the start of their mini-adventure as he discovers that she had simply visited the island’s sperm bank and used their sterilised turkey baster. Snag? Well there is a chance that the father of any child could be, well… (and no, not “Danny”). This takes a gentle ping at the mundanity of daily life, at unrequited love and there’s some fun to be had from the dialogue between the pair and with her friendly fisherman friend (Toby Williams) whose latest catch emerged fully clothed. As the plot unfolds, it is hard not to squirm a little - but that’s the source of much of the humour here, and if you’ve quarter of an hour to spare then this ought to make you smile (and pray that your local clinic has some better criteria for dispensing it’s samples!).
